Maumee, county settle yearslong dispute over unpaid sewer charges

The city of Maumee and Lucas County have settled a yearslong disagreement over unpaid sewer outflow charges at the county-owned recreation center in the city.

The agreement will place a new flow monitor at an area that aims to isolate the outflow from the Lucas County Recreation Center, and the county will pay half the amount of future bills until readings from the monitor can determine the accuracy of unpaid bills, which amount to nearly $2 million.

Readings from the monitor will be collected until June of next year and compared to the readings from the city’s monitor. That data will be monitored by independent consultants from both the city and the county, and the two parties will negotiate on an amount to be paid on past-due bills. If the parties do not agree, it will be sent to arbitration…
