A Texas influencer is getting a lot of backlash from locals who believe she dismissed the history of a once primarily Black and Hispanic neighborhood in Austin. The now viral TikTok video of a day in the life coffee shop visit sparked a larger conversation about East Austin’s gentrification issues.
Earlier this week, TikTok user @tianalauren posted her visit to Palomino Coffee in East Austin where she began the vlog saying, “not gonna lie the surrounding area was very sketchy, but this coffee shop itself is super cute on the inside.” Her hot take struck a nerve with many Austinites, who responded with their own social media videos disagreeing with her opinion and defending their community.
