GRPD denies that it uses license plate readers in immigration-related investigations

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County has dozens of cameras that can scan license plates across the county. About 25 of them were installed in 2022 by Flock Safety for the Kent County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to use for criminal investigations.

The Wyoming Public Safety Department and the Kentwood Police Department also use automated license plate readers (ALPR) from Flock Safety, and have been for about the same amount of time as KCSO.
