Neglected San Antonio-area park to see $7 million in improvements

A neglected far Southwest Side Park will undergo $7 million worth of upgrades and improvements, including proposed sports fields and a skate park, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing by the Bexar County Parks and Recreation Department on Friday, May 30.

Macdona Plaza Park is located in unincorporated Bexar County at 9900 Third St., Macdona, TX 78054, near Loop 1604 and Pearsall Road by Southwest High School. The park has been neglected for several years, according to an agenda form from the Bexar County Commissioners Court in 2022.

Staff within Bexar County told MySA the park is still in the design phase. The proposed improvements include site amenities, such as sidewalks, ADA access, benches, shading, baseball fields, fencing, dugouts, bleachers, basketball courts and new playground equipment.
