Juror pushes for police body cameras in Floyd County

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office does not have body worn cameras for their officers. That’s a fact Joy Schindler learned after serving on a jury for a local case.

“It was a big point in that case that they didn’t have them and if they had had the body cameras, it wouldn’t have gone to trial and been costly,” Schindler said.

She said her and the other jurors were surprised to hear this and assumed the county’s officers had the equipment. The jury vowed to bring change after the case, and Schindler has done her part and started a petition to mandate body cameras for the department…
