State Comptroller takes control of Rutherford County assessor’s office

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office will be stepping in to take over the Rutherford County Assessor’s Office temporarily, according to a news release from the state office.

An 11.3 percent error rate of property assessments (more than double the allowed 5 percent error rate) is the most significant cause for the move.

Tennessee Comptroller’s Office Director of Communications John Dunn said that corrective work to assessed properties could begin as early as this week.

“Because the Comptroller’s Office will be doing the work, the county will be invoiced for the costs incurred based on the time and staff it will take to make the necessary corrections to the property records,” Dunn said…
