A new state law in South Carolina regulating golf cart usage is now in effect, requiring that all children under the age of 12 wear a seat belt while riding in a golf cart on public roads. The legislation, signed by Governor Henry McMaster, took effect on May 22, 2025, and applies statewide.
In addition to the seat belt mandate, the law reaffirms that golf cart drivers must be at least 16 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and only operate on roads with speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less.
