Gilbert school police officer wins national award

Gilbert Police Officer Ryan Matheson’s journey of helping students and shaping young minds began long before his law enforcement career.

As a K-8 health and physical education teacher in New Jersey for 16 years, Matheson gained considerable experience in all facets of middle school education, working with parents, children and the community.

He went on to join the Gilbert Police Department and has been on the force for six years –the last three a school resource officer (SRO) first at Mesquite Junior High School and now at Cooley Middle School…
