Convicted arsonist sentenced 17 to 40 years for 2024 Kalamazoo fires

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Kalamazoo County judge has sentenced a 33-year-old man to 17 to 40 years in prison for a string of arsons that injured first responders and displaced residents during the summer of 2024.

George Stanard pleaded guilty in May to three counts of first-degree arson and one count of third-degree arson as a second-habitual offender. He admitted to setting multiple fires in Kalamazoo between June and September of last year.
