SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A Lane County jury has found a Springfield man guilty of multiple charges related to a violent standoff with police nearly two years ago that left one officer injured, according to court records.
Court documents show that Michael Allen Groff, 48, was convicted Friday of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. The charges stem from an incident in August 2023, when Groff reportedly fired several shots at police officers during a tense confrontation at a home on Market Street, according to court records.
Court filings show that officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to calls of a man breaking items and behaving erratically before entering a residence. When officers arrived, Groff fired multiple rounds from inside the house, striking and injuring one officer, according to court documents.
