Amarillo gas prices fall 3.6 cents, average $2.56/gallon on Monday

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Gas prices in Amarillo fell by 3.6 cents per gallon in the last week to reach an average of $2.56/gallon on Monday, according to the latest report from GasBuddy. Those prices were noted as 0.5 cents lower than a month ago and 17 cents lower than one year ago.

GasBuddy reported the cheapest station in Amarillo on Sunday was priced at $2.42/gallon while the most expensive was $2.80/gallon, a difference of 38 cents. The lowest price in Texas on Sunday was $2.23/gallon while the most expensive was $3.59/gallon, a difference of $1.36.

Nationally, the average price of gas has fallen 1.8 cents from last week, averaging $3.07/gallon on Monday. That national average was noted as down 5.2 cents from a month ago and 32.8 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel decreased by 1.7 cents in the last week to reach an average of $3.44/gallon.

Gas prices in areas neighboring Amarillo included:

  • Lubbock- $2.51/gallon, down 3.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.55/gallon.
  • Midland Odessa- $2.76/gallon, up 15.3 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.61/gallon.
  • Oklahoma- $2.62/gallon, down 10.4 cents per gallon from last week’s $2.73 gallon.

“Average gas prices declined in nearly all states over the last week as refineries ramped up output and gasoline supplies surged,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “While a few states experienced price cycling—a pattern where prices drop sharply and then spike every couple of weeks—the overall gentle downward trend is typical as summer progresses. If oil prices continue to rise gradually, it could eventually impact gas prices, but for now, we likely won’t see any major shifts at the pump in most areas this week.”…
