Canyon declares second disaster after hailstorm slams city weeks after tornado

For the second time in just over a month, the City of Canyon has declared a disaster after back-to-back severe weather events battered the Texas Panhandle community with tornadoes, hail, and high winds.

The latest declaration came June 8, following a destructive hailstorm that struck overnight from Saturday into Sunday, June 7-8. The storm brought wind gusts up to 80 mph and hailstones as large as 2.5 inches in diameter, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
