APPLING, Ga. – One of the premier lakes in the southeast, Clarks Hill is home to the next events in both the South Carolina Division and the Savannah River Division of the Phoenix Bass Fishing League Presented by T-H Marine. The South Carolina Division will fish on June 21, and the Savannah River Division will fish the next weekend on June 28. Both events should be good ones, with high weights and some fun fishing, as the summertime bite in the Carolinas and Georgia is always solid.
What to expect
Matt O’Connell, who won a Clarks Hill event last year, says the fishing should be good, with typical summertime patterns in play.
“That time of year, it’s 75% running brush and cane,” O’Connell said. “And then I’d say, like, 25% is trying to find some places that just seem to have some better fish. Whether it’s a shallow bite first thing or whether it’s just, you know, finding a couple places that are holding some bigger largemouth versus covered up with spotted bass.”
There’s also the potential for a shallow bite on Clarks Hill…
