KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man will spend decades in prison for shooting and killing a mixed martial arts fighter in Kalamazoo last year, police say.
Khymarus Pratt, 20, was sentenced Monday to 25 to 60 years in prison for felony murder and two years for felony firearm, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. Police say he pleaded guilty to the charges last month.
The shooting happened March 23, 2024, during an attempted robbery, according to KDPS. Officers were originally sent to the scene for a crash, but when they arrived, they found 25-year-old Bader Farwana in his vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. He died of his injuries, police say.
Family and friends remembered Farwana as a role model, someone who lit up the room and “a fantastic human being.”
