Man gets prison for setting fires in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who admitted to setting several fires in Kalamazoo last summer has been sentenced to prison for first-degree arson.

A judge on Monday sentenced George Stanard to between 17 and 40 years for the fires, which were set over a four-month span.

Officials say after setting the fires, Stanard stuck around to watch the buildings burn.

In one of the fires, a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety firefighter was hurt. And in another blaze, two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion.
