VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office (VBCSO) is warning people about a texting scam going around West Michigan that they say is easy to fall for if you’re not careful.
Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott said the unsolicited text messages are coming from various phone numbers requesting the recipients to pay for unpaid fines, with a link provided to pay said fine.

The message states, in part, “Michigan State Department of Vehicles (DMV) Final Notice: Enforcement Penalties Begin on June 11.” The message proceeds to provide the recipient with potential penalties if they do not respond by paying the fine…
