Macy’s set to depart The Village at Corte Madera

On March 18, after more than four decades of serving Marin County shoppers, Macy’s at The Village at Corte Madera will be closed its doors for good. The closure, announced earlier this year, marks a significant shift in the retail landscape. Known for its expansive selection of clothing, home goods and cosmetics, Macy’s has long been a staple of the mall, drawing customers from across Marin and beyond.

For years, Macy’s has been a go-to destination for families and fashion-forward shoppers alike. However, with the rise of online shopping, the Corte Madera Macy’s has seen its sales steadily decline. The decision to close is a part of Macy’s larger national strategy to consolidate its operations and focus on its more profitable locations. Over the course of the next three years, Macy’s plans to close 150 locations nationwide.

Mall-goers are left with mixed feelings about the closure, such as Julie Thompson, a resident of Greenbrae who frequented the store for both its clothing and cosmetics.

“It’s a real bummer,” Thompson said. “I’ve been shopping here for years. It’s just a part of the community, you know?”…
