New York gastroenterologist charged with social security fraud

A Great Neck, N.Y.-based gastroenterologist has been charged with grand larceny for allegedly collecting more than $100,000 in Social Security Disability and Early Retirement benefits while continuing to work and bill Medicare, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said in a June 11 news release.

What happened?

  • Between September 2021 and May 2025, Joseph Golyan, MD, allegedly treated patients and billed Medicare for over $700,000 in services while receiving disability and retirement benefits.
