SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — An unusual visitor was found roaming in Surfside Beach on Wednesday, and officials are trying to determine where it came from.
A non-native tortoise was found in the area of 13th Ave South and Ocean Boulevard, police said in a Facebook post, adding that it is probably a pet.
“Upon collaboration with DNR and other wildlife experts, it’s been determined this is most likely a pet,” police said. “Temporary care has been arranged.”
