New Joe David Padron double-murder case stalled by missing documents, prosecutor says

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man convicted of capital murder in 2004 and released on bail in 2023 after a recommendation by the Innocence Project of Texas, was back in court on Wednesday for a status hearing.

Joe David Padron was convicted for the shooting deaths of two 19-year-old men in what police believed to be a drug and gang-related dispute that happened at a house in Corpus Christi in 2002.

He spent more than 20 years behind bars but was released when the Innocence Project of Texas took on his case…
