COLONIE — A portion of the county jail’s facade fell off on Thursday before dawn, resulting in some inmates having to be relocated as construction occurs to fix the wall.
Sheriff Craig Apple said inmates and officers woke up around 3 a.m. to a loud sound, after which they discovered bricks had fallen from one section of the building’s facade. No one was injured during the incident, as where the bricks fell is an inaccessible area to those incarcerated.
The damaged exterior measured to be an area of 8 feet by 100 feet. While the jail walls are a couple feet thick and the broken facade was “not exposing any chance of escape,” said Apple, inmates next to the compromised area on the interior of the building were moved elsewhere in the prison for their safety…
