LIVERMORE, CALIFORNIA – California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrested the driver of a red GMC Yukon on Tuesday morning after shots were reportedly fired at another vehicle on eastbound Interstate 580, between Flynn Road and Grant Line Road near Livermore.
What happened
- 9:02 a.m. — A Tesla Model 3 driver called 9-1-1, telling dispatchers that the Yukon’s driver had fired “at least five rounds” while both vehicles were traveling eastbound. No one was hurt and the Tesla was not struck, according to CHP Dublin Area officials.
- CHP broadcast the suspect vehicle’s description to nearby agencies and requested a Flock Safety license-plate reader search through its Traffic Management Center.
- Shortly afterward — San Leandro Police located the Yukon in a parking lot in San Leandro and detained the driver.
Evidence recovered
Officers say they found a loaded handgun inside the SUV. The driver was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of assault with a firearm and related offenses. CHP has not yet released the suspect’s name, pending formal charges.
