Johnson County sees its first Measles case in an unvaccinated boy

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa has it’s third case of Measles, and it’s an unvaccinated child from Johnson county. This is the county’s first case, and the unvaccinated boy was exposed during a trip outside the country.

Johnson County Public Health is trying to track the highly contagious virus should it spread. A mom from Iowa city says this national outbreak is due to vaccine skepticism, but Jenny Howland says she and her son have both been vaccinated.

“After we saw during the covid pandemic, things spread really, really fast,” Howland said. “We’re lucky enough to have a pretty good immunity, but not everybody else’s. So, we do what we can to do our part.”…
