Tracking some shower and storm chances over the next few days across the Rockford region

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – As I was driving into work this afternoon, I saw a line of about 30 to 40 people at Sand Shark Pool in Loves Park, and man was I envious of them! It has been a nice warm day with plenty of sunshine. The one thing that didn’t show up this afternoon was the humidity. Dew points have been sitting in the upper 50s keeping it feeling a bit more comfortable than what I thought today would give.

That lack of moisture is actually going to be a good sign for us tonight. A cold front will be traveling across the region and stalling overhead. Initially, we thought that a few strong thunderstorms could develop along this front, but with the lack of surface moisture and the lack of meaningful mid-level moisture our storm chances have dropped quite a bit. While I can’t rule out a stray shower or two, most of them should stay to our north. Any storms that do develop may be strong to severe with hail and high winds the primary risk.
