Anchorage launches $2M grant program for childcare and summer camps

Help is on the way for childcare and summer camp providers in Anchorage. Starting this week, organizations offering these services can apply for grants aimed at easing operational costs.

The nonprofit Thread is distributing over $2 million in funding, made possible through Anchorage’s marijuana tax revenues. The grants are designed to support existing licensed providers and help expand childcare availability in the city.

“Parents are paying that market price for child care — while it’s really expensive, it doesn’t cover all of the true cost of care and the true cost of doing business for child care every day,” said Thread CEO Stephanie Berglund. “This is really a way to fill the gap and offer key financial support.”…
