Northbound Loop 303 in Peoria reopens following wrong-way crash

PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — The northbound lanes of Loop 303 in the West Valley are shut down Friday afternoon due to a serious-injury wrong-way crash, and they’re expected to remain closed through the evening rush hour.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), troopers received a call about a possible wrong-way driver on the freeway near Lone Mountain Parkway around 1:20 p.m. Troopers arrived and learned that a car struck a pick-up truck loaded with passengers. At that point, DPS says the suspected wrong-way driver lost control of the car and skidded off the road.

The wrong-way driver, who troopers identified as a man, suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. His status is unknown.

Troopers expect northbound traffic to remain closed through the 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. hour. Authorities confirmed that traffic is currently being taken off at Jomax Road…
