A Bellevue student had a close encounter with a coyote in Clyde Hill neighborhood, prompting local wildlife officers to increase their patrols. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) reported that the incident happened last Wednesday, around 1:30 p.m. when the student was making their way home from a bus stop. A coyote made an unwelcome swipe at their leg, leaving a minor scratch.
The student, whose identity has not been disclosed, was able to fend off the coyote using their backpack and managed to make it home safely, despite being followed by the animal. In response, several WDFW Police officers swept the area, though the coyote evaded detection. Officers are now stepping up their presence, in the neighborhood, to prevent future incidents.
