Brooklyn Park, MN – A suspect is in custody following a targeted attack that left a Minnesota House Speaker and her husband dead and a state senator and his wife injured. The assailant, posing as a police officer, carried out what authorities are calling a “politically motivated assassination.”

Police Chief Mark Bruley confirmed the suspect’s vehicle contained a manifesto listing several lawmakers and other officials as potential targets, along with flyers bearing the slogan “No Kings.” The discovery prompted immediate alerts and increased security measures for those named. Bruley stated the investigation is ongoing and involves multiple agencies, including the FBI and the BCA Sheriff’s office.

While authorities haven’t officially connected the “No Kings” flyers to a specific group, a planned rally with the same name was cancelled following the shootings. Instead, the grassroots organization Indivisible Twin Cities held a vigil at the state Capitol, expressing their grief and commitment to a peaceful future.

Residents near the Edinburgh Golf Course, the site of the attack, were initially placed under a shelter-in-place order as police searched for the suspect described as a white male with brown hair, wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants. The suspect may also impersonate law enforcement.

State police have assured the public there will be heightened security at all political events. Former President Trump addressed the shootings, stating that the Attorney General and the FBI are investigating and those responsible will be prosecuted. He offered condolences to the people of Minnesota.
