FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) – Everything is on track for Fairhope’s Working Waterfront project to be open to the public by the 4th of July holiday. One more big closure needs to happen first. The North Beach and Pier area will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning Monday, June 16, 2025 and that will last up to seven days.
Much has been done over the last nine months. The most significant and time-consuming work is hidden beneath the new surface at the roundabout and South Beach area where new stormwater drains, and bulkheads were installed. Next week, contractors must close the area not just to cars, but also limit pedestrian traffic.
“The biggest part of that is being able to tie that drainage in so there will be an open road cut there, right in front of the Fire Hall,” Fairhope mayor, Sherry Sullivan explained. “That’s the biggest part of it and again, some of it is just for convenience. I hate to say convenience, but when you have as much traffic as we have down here, it’s hard to work between that.”
The rose garden is now filled with new plants and the blooms are starting to blanket the park in red and yellow. The renovated fountain will be painted in coming days and as the new pavers go down in the traffic circle, the view from the bluff above offers a good idea of what’s to come…
