Former Minnesota Vikings safety Jack Brewer has strongly criticized Governor Tim Walz following the shootings of two state lawmakers in their homes, incidents Walz described as “politically motivated assassinations.”
Brewer, a former “lifelong Democrat” who now identifies as a Republican, expressed his dismay at the state’s current condition. “We need to start calling this what it is,” Brewer stated.
“These people have lost their minds. I am heartbroken to see Minnesota, once one of the most amazing states, completely turned around under Governor Walz.”
On Saturday, State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed in a shooting in Brooklyn Park. Hortman had assumed office on January 4th and previously served as the 61st Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Shortly after, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot multiple times in their home. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Hoffman has represented the 34th district in the Minnesota Senate since 2013.
The shooter, identified as 57-year-old Vance Boelter, allegedly impersonated a police officer using a vehicle equipped with flashing lights. Boelter is a former appointee of the Walz administration, having served a four-year term on the Governor’s Workforce Development Board.
He also reportedly worked as Director of Security Patrol for a Minnesota security company. Brewer contends that the Walz administration is failing to protect its citizens.
“Minnesota has become the capital of chaos in America,” Brewer declared. “This isn’t a reflection of the true people of Minnesota.
There are a lot of good people there. But the liberal hub around Minneapolis and St.
Paul has taken over, and it’s dangerous. Tim Walz and his attorney general, Keith Ellison, are leading this.”
Brewer played for the Vikings in 2002 and 2003. His four-year NFL career also included stints with the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.
