A Father-Daughter Duo Thrive at AT&T
Nicole Wen, 25, and her father share more than just a last name; they share a workplace, a commute, and a deep bond forged during countless car rides to and from AT&T. Nicole’s father has been with the company for over 26 years, and it was his encouragement that led her to three summer internships there, ultimately paving the way for her current role as a principal project program manager. He holds a leadership position in sales.
When Nicole started her full-time position two years ago, their hour-long commute became a special time for connection. They learned more about each other during those drives than they had in years past. She gained a deeper appreciation for her father’s journey, immigrating from Taiwan at 14, mastering English, navigating high school and college in the US, and eventually finding his place within the AT&T family.
Beyond personal stories, these commutes became a source of invaluable life lessons. Nicole’s father emphasized the importance of building a strong network, encouraging her to embrace opportunities – big or small – and to diversify her skillset.
Inspired by her father’s active involvement in an employee resource group focused on supporting high school students and offering college scholarships, Nicole joined as well. Now they share a common interest in giving back to the community, particularly enjoying Lunar New Year events together, a meaningful experience for their mixed-race family.
Taking her father’s advice to heart, Nicole actively networks, accepting invitations even when tired, and consistently seeks new challenges. Just three months ago, she transitioned from a finance role to become chief of staff, a position that allows her to explore a completely different side of the business.
While this change has pushed her outside her comfort zone, she credits her father’s wisdom for her willingness to embrace the challenge and continue growing professionally. This father-daughter duo exemplifies the power of family support and mentorship in navigating a career journey.
