Life of CPR advocate saved by those she trained

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Each year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital in the United States and 90% of those are fatal. A woman survived a cardiac arrest because she made sure others knew how to do CPR.

On July 31, 2023, Stacey Parks, the assistant service manager at Mercedes-Benz, was at work. A surveillance camera captured what happened that afternoon when Parks walked up to a desk and laid down papers.

“They said I told them a couple of times ‘I don’t feel good,’” Parks said. Then Parks collapsed. “They thought I had just passed out at first,” Parks said. Her boss, Chris Siegel, jumped into action. “He said he realized after 15 seconds I hadn’t taken a breath yet and I was turning blue. And he realized what was happening, so he screamed for someone to go get the AED,” Parks said. Siegel put the AED on Parks and the AED directed him to immediately start compressions…
