Roanoke residents invited to recycle old electronics for free at upcoming drive-in event

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke residents will have the opportunity to responsibly recycle their unwanted electronics during a free drive-in event scheduled for Saturday, June 14. The event will take place between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM at the Roanoke Public Works Division parking lot, located at 1802 Courtland Road NE.

The city is teaming up with Clean Earth, a professional electronic waste recycling provider, to make this event possible. The collaboration aims to help citizens declutter their homes while ensuring discarded devices are processed safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.

Residents are invited to bring commonly used household electronics such as computers, monitors, tablets, printers, phones, small appliances, and televisions. In general, almost anything that runs on electricity will be accepted, with a few exceptions. Prohibited items include:

  • Ballasts (PCB and non-PCB)
  • Batteries, including lithium types used for power tools or power banks
  • Commercial-grade machines such as copy machines
  • Fluorescent lightbulbs
  • Mercury switches
  • Thermostats and thermometers
