When your home is selected for a tour, that pretty much sums up the fact that you have a great house. However, when Tony Nuncio and Terrance Nichols spotted their Oak Cliff cottage, it was not in the best shape, and they were just a tad late in submitting their offer. You’d think this would turn out to be a sad story, but it’s the complete opposite.
Nuncio and Nichols had lived in Oak Cliff since 1999, so they knew the gentleman who had snagged this cottage before they could, and they were just fine with it. “Toby Tucker bought the house to renovate it,” Nuncio said. They were familiar with the quality of his work and contracted with him immediately to purchase it upon completion. Originally a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home, Tucker’s renovations yielded a total of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The renovation was a comprehensive project that involved a 750-square-foot addition and a complete overhaul of the existing structure.
It was about 10 months before they could move in because the renovation was a down-to-the-studs project. All the things you seldom think about were done, such as installing energy-efficient foam insulation in the attic and exterior walls and incorporating art lighting. They also had the benefit of customizing and upgrading during the process. Nichols even designed the kitchen, the cabinets, and the closets.
In 2015, they moved in, and friends immediately began telling the couple that their 1920s cottage should be on the Oak Cliff Home Tour. So, in 2016, they were! When you look at the photos, it’s easy to see how home-tour-worthy this Oak Cliff cottage is because it’s adorable.
“We have enjoyed it immensely, and we will miss it a lot,” Nuncio said. “I think we will miss the kitchen the most because we have entertained a lot here, and it’s everyone wants to be in the kitchen. Terrance and I are celebrating our 29th year together, and we were living in this house when we got married. We had a big reception with over 100 people here, and that is our fondest memory of this house, but those memories will go with us.”…
