STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Of all the things to worry about as a homeowner, a sofa bursting into flames is typically not one of them.
That’s unless you’re Walter Matuza and Zoe Hartman of Grant City, who say they were displaced from their condominium and scarred emotionally after purchasing a defective furniture set from a national retailer.
An ongoing lawsuit in Brooklyn federal court alleges the couple’s home was destroyed in 2023 when the LED lighting built into the sofa set they had purchased caught fire.
