Tragedy Strikes West Valley City Carnival: Three Dead, Including Infant, After Shooting

West Valley City, Utah – A joyous evening at WestFest turned into a scene of unimaginable horror Sunday night when an argument between two groups erupted into gunfire, leaving three people dead, including an 8-month-old infant. Two others were injured in the shooting.

According to the West Valley City Police Department, officers on duty at the Centennial Park carnival witnessed the altercation and were approaching the scene to intervene when a 16-year-old male pulled out a gun and opened fire. One officer returned fire, but did not strike anyone.

The infant and a 41-year-old woman, described as a bystander, were both fatally shot. An 18-year-old male, reportedly part of one of the groups involved in the initial dispute, also died from gunshot wounds.

Two other teenagers, a 17-year-old female and a 15-year-old male, suffered gunshot wounds to the arm. Police are investigating whether they were involved with either of the groups. Their conditions remain unknown.

The 16-year-old suspect is in custody. Police have not yet released his name.

West Valley City, a suburb of Salt Lake City, is home to approximately 134,000 residents.
