Elvis Cutout’s Shocking Value Revealed on Antiques Roadshow

Additional Coverage:

A lucky Elvis fan got quite the surprise on a recent episode of Antiques Roadshow. The guest brought in a life-size cardboard cutout of the King, which she’d kept by her bedside for years. She explained to appraiser Laura Woolley that the standee was a gift from friends who discovered it while renovating a house.

Woolley identified the cutout as a promotional piece for Presley’s first film, Love Me Tender. Originally titled The Reno Brothers, the movie was renamed after Presley’s hit single.

Woolley explained that these standees were displayed in theaters, and due to the singer’s immense popularity, most were torn to shreds by adoring fans. She estimated that only two or three remain intact, making this particular item extremely rare.

When Woolley appraised the standee at $10,000 to $15,000, the guest was overcome with emotion, bursting into tears. She enthusiastically confirmed that the cutout would remain by her bedside, despite its newfound value.

The guest embraced a delighted Woolley, thanking her profusely for the incredible appraisal. Woolley noted that the only other existing standees are likely held by serious Elvis collectors.
