CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Chris Singleton was an 18-year-old college freshman when his mother was killed in the Mother Emanuel shooting in Charleston.
The Rev. Sharonda Coleman Singleton was one of nine parishioners of the church shot to death on the night of June 17, 2015.
He spoke with his mom during the Bible study that night. He had returned home after playing a summer league game at Charleston Southern University, where he played baseball. He called to ask her where she had put something in the house that his younger brother was looking for. She stepped away from the Bible study for a moment to take his call.
It was the last time he would ever hear her voice…
