SWISHER, Iowa — Iowans paid $68 million more in tariffs compared to one year ago, a new report released Tuesday by Farmers for Free Trade finds. Business and agricultural leaders are discussing the impact and findings at a town hall in Swisher.
Data from Trade Partnership Worldwide shows there was a 304% increase in total tariffs in April 2025 compared to April 2024, despite a 10% decline in import values.
“These numbers show the real-world impact that tariff policies are having on Iowa businesses right now,” Farmers for Free Trade Executive Director Brian Kuehl said. “As the nation’s leading corn and soybean producer, Iowa faces a double hit from both import tariffs and potential agricultural export retaliation.”…
