The owners of San Antonio’s Smoke Shack and The Pigpen Neighborhood Bar are quietly shaking up Alamo City’s fried chicken pecking order. Quick-service restaurant Honey’s Chicken Joint opened June 14, serving homestyle plates and sides at 1001 Rittiman Rd near Fort Sam Houston.
Honey’s is aptly located in a former Church’s Chicken location — and, on paper, the menu isn’t much different. The restaurant specializes in fried tenders, bone-in combo meals, and chicken sandwiches served with honey butter-drenched drop biscuits. Guests can also order steak fingers and a garden salad topped with fried or grilled chicken.
