LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Since returning to run the Louisville jail in March 2022, Director Jerry Collins has made a long list of changes to increase inmate mental health and safety.
“When we came the –literally, there was drugs all over this jail,” Collins said. “So, we really had to think about how we were stopping the drugs coming in.”
The changes to stop drugs coming into the jail include: ending paper mail and investing in electronic mail, starting “full dress-outs” in spring 2023 where inmates get a jail jumpsuit the second they enter the jail, and purchasing two additional body scanners and upgrading the one they had…
