Linn County jail holding inmates for ICE under new housing agreement

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – As ICE arrests are happening across the country, and here in Iowa, the Linn County Jail is housing some of the people being detained.

They have a 3-year housing agreement with the U.S. Marshal Service. The county gets $140 per inmate per day for housing people for ICE.

“Over that three year period of time we assume that at the end of that housing agreement it will be about $140 per day, per inmate to house. Right now we’re probably at about $125, $130 per inmate per day actual cost to house someone,” said Linn County Sheriff County Sheriff Brian Gardner…
