Lafayette residents sue LCG over ‘unconstitutional’ short-term rental restrictions

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Two Lafayette homeowners have filed a lawsuit challenging the Lafayette Consolidated Government’s ban on short-term rentals in residential zones.

Michael DeSelle and Becky Guidry filed the suit in federal court that seeks to overturn what the suit calls “an unprecedented and discriminatory Lafayette ordinance” enacted in 2023.

“I work hard to build a better life for my family, and hosting helps pay my mortgage. Lafayette’s unconstitutional ban prevents me from using the home we’ve invested so much time and money into as a source of income,” DeSelle said. “This lawsuit is about more than just short-term rentals, it’s about protecting fundamental property rights for homeowners across Louisiana. Who I allow to stay in my house is my business, not the government’s.”…
