San Diego rescuers return last domoic acid patient into the wild

SAN DIEGO — After months of rescuing poisoned sea life along California’s coast, there is finally a sign of hope that harmful algal blooms are over for now.

Jeni Smith and Jennifer Zarate are part of the SeaWorld Rescue team working overtime to rescue animals exposed to domoic acid, a naturally occurring neurotoxin produced by harmful algae blooms.

Since February, SeaWorld has rescued 69 sea lions, 6 dolphins, a fur seal and 60 birds…
