Juneteenth is a federal, state and local holiday celebrating the day — June 19, 1865 — when Union Major Gen. Gordon Granger ordered enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the Civil War.

Government offices in Eugene and Springfield will be closed Thursday, along with Lane County offices. Federal offices will be closed as well.
The Lane Transit District (LTD) will operate a regular bus schedule on Thursday. Eugene’s Customer Service Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Springfield’s will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. LTD administration offices will be closed…
