EDP takes precautions to prevent violence after fight breaks out at Movie Monday

Over 100 teenagers disrupted the Erie Downtown Partnership’s Movie Monday event in Perry Square, leading to police intervention and plans to prevent future incidents.

The Erie City Police responded to multiple calls from attendees when a large group of teenagers interrupted the movie screening. Officers managed to disperse the group initially, but fights broke out when the teenagers returned, resulting in one juvenile being charged with disorderly conduct.

“We were able to disperse the juveniles across the street into the east park and they dispersed from there. Unfortunately, about a half an hour later, this entire group of juveniles came back,” said Rick Lorah, Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Erie.

The Erie Downtown Partnership is revising its plans for upcoming events to ensure safety and inclusivity. Dave Tamulonis, the Events & Marketing Manager, emphasized the importance of making attendees feel safe. “We want to make sure people feel safe when they come to our events, especially the family-focused events. We got a lot of great guidance; we’re going to add some extra layers of security and some wrap-around community services,” Tamulonis said…
