Joliet, IL — New Watering Ordinance Limits Lawn Watering Hours This Summer

Joliet, IL – With summer in full swing, the City of Joliet is reinforcing its seasonal watering ordinance in an effort to promote water conservation and community sustainability.

According to RethinkWaterJoliet.org, the city’s ordinance restricts lawn watering to two specific windows each day—between 6 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. This measure is intended to minimize water loss due to evaporation during hotter midday hours and to support healthier, more sustainable lawns.

Residents are also required to follow an alternating day schedule based on their street address. Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days, while odd-numbered addresses water on odd-numbered days.
