CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — An 18-year-old man with special needs who wandered out of his home died after being struck by a car early Thursday morning on Caratoke Highway, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The 18-year-old, who was not wearing a shirt or shoes, had wandered away from his home while his parents were sleeping, the highway patrol said.
The man was walking northbound on the southbound side of Caratoke Highway around 12:16 a.m. near a 7-Eleven, about 2.5 miles away from his home, when he was struck by a GMC Acadia, according to the highway patrol, and he died at the scene…
