BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said it discovered weapons, cell phones, syringes and other contraband items during enforcement sweeps of its facilities.
The search happened in response to increased levels of violence in CDCR institutions, according to officials.
The items found and confiscated include:
- 53 improvised weapons
- 66 cell phones
- 24 syringes
- 155 other contraband items, including metal stock, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, escape tools and other illicit objects
The additional sweeps were conducted after CDCR initiated modified programming in Level III and IV areas on June 12, including the California Correctional Institution, Kern Valley State Prison, North Kern State Prison and Wasco State Prison…
