Opelousas police chief supports speed cameras despite council pushback

OPELOUSAS, la. (KLFY) — Speed cameras have been a hot topic of discussion in Opelousas as council members are speaking out against the cameras.

In a recent city council meeting, Council member Delita Broussard started an online petition to remove the cameras.

Members of law enforcement, like Police Chief Graig LeBlanc, discussed why the cameras are helpful and necessary. LeBlanc said the speed cameras in the city are proven to be effective in multiple categories and that they should remain in operation. They also provide the city with much needed revenue and the money from citations also goes towards the Police Department and city court…
